Director of Product Marketing

Are you looking for the chance to help drive product marketing and content creation for the fastest database company in Boston? Then look no further. VoltDB is an In-Memory Translytical Database architected by Turing Award winner Dr. Mike Stonebraker from MIT.

As the Director of Product Marketing, you’ll be responsible for creating messaging and content for developers and operations teams to drive awareness and adoption of VoltDB. Creative and results-driven, you’ll be comfortable engaging in both strategic and technical product marketing. You have exceptional writing skills and deep experience creating compelling content for B2B technology brands.  This is a unique opportunity to help lead the strategy and development of product marketing programs for one of the most promising late-stage technology startups out there.

Reporting in to VP Product Management, you will be working in close partnership with product management, marketing, sales and engineering to create content that serves as the foundation for demand generation, product evangelism, thought-leadership, brand development and social-media activities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cultivate a strong understanding and a point of view grounded in a deep understanding of our technology, our strategy, key market trends and developer community as a whole.
  • Create our messaging with this POV and create content based on it to grow adoption of our Open Source, Enterprise and Cloud versions of our product.
  • Produce technical product, thought leadership, and sales enablement content that brings the key business and technology elements of our product story to life
  • Collaborate with our Solution Architects and Engineers to educate and empower developers who want to build applications on VoltDB.
  • Provide market and buyer insights to help drive the development of campaign strategies for demand generation
  • Support field enablement as a Product Subject Matter Expert
  • Represent VoltDB in meetups, developer conferences, in analyst relations and with the media

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in Product Marketing, Technical Product Marketing or Product Management for a complex B2B product.
  • Extensive knowledge of DBMS technology (NoSQL/SQL/NewSQL, In-Memory, Streaming, Hadoop, Machine Learning) is a must
  • Knowledge of the Telecoms &/or Financial Services sectors a plus
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with ability to influence cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills (both written & verbal)
  • BA/BS degree required; Master’s degree a plus
  • Developer skills a plus
  • Ability to travel globally (25%-30%)
  • Bedford MA based required

Software Engineers (All Levels)

We’re looking for Software Engineers to join the VoltDB development team. In this position you will work with a super-smart engineering team to help architect, design and implement new VoltDB features such as high availability, SQL enhancements, data larger than memory support, transaction execution, integrations, management/monitoring tools, etc.

The core skills we’re looking for include:

  • Fluent in Java.
  • Experience developing UNIX/Linux systems software.
  • BS Computer Science or MS Computer Science (preferred)

Technical Sales Engineers

Description:

  • Design, develop, and test Proof of Concept initiatives;
  • Understand customer challenges and translate them into technical solutions;
  • Collaborate with customer architects to design an overall solution as reference architecture;
  • Help customers understand the company’s value proposition;
  • Work with Product Management by providing ongoing feedback to enhance company products;
  • Respond to requests for information (RFI) and requests for proposals (RFP) for both potential direct customers and partner engagements; and
  • Support marketing activities such as trade shows, industry conferences, and analyst presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a closely related field plus experience with enterprise software or application development, gained through five (5) years of progressively more responsible work experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of design and implementation patterns, gained through three (3) years of work experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Java, SQL, C#, C++, and Python, gained through three (3) years of work experience;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational databases and Java Database Connectivity (“JDBC”) , gained through three (3) years of work experience; and
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scalable, highly distributed systems, gained through three (3) years of work experience.

All years of experience may be gained concurrently. Candidates may reside anywhere in the United States. Telecommuting is an option.

Travel requirement: 25% (90% of the travel requirement will be domestic and 10% will be international travel)

Business Development Representative

VoltDB is looking for a high energy individual to join our Business Development team to generate qualified prospects for sales to close. Success in the BDR role requires a hunter-mentality with significant time on the phone following up on leads generated from marketing programs as well as independent prospecting. The individual hired for this role will be groomed to move into an Inside Sales Rep position.

Responsibilities

  • Master VoltDB’s target market, business drivers and strategies so that you can engage prospects and position VoltDB as a value-add solution.
  • Reach out to and follow up with respondents from a variety of marketing programs and sales campaigns to initiate conversation, learn current business programs and qualify potential business applications.
  • Execute the necessary daily activities as set forth by management, including phone calls and emails at a high quality to meet your monthly goals.
  • Identify key targets in our database and initiate contact with appropriate suspects, leveraging research resources to create intrigue, assess their current business methods and position the VoltDB solution.
  • Nurture and manage leads until they are qualified as sales-ready.
  • Leverage all contacts to identify other prospects through referrals
  • Identify decision makers and company goals to position VoltDB appropriately.
  • Track all activity thoroughly in our CRM system to support account and management teams. Validate activity and lead qualification reports. Provide field representatives with solid prospect background on role, need and intrigue to ensure high-quality prospect transition into the sales process.
  • Identify potential opportunities and transition leads to field representatives by proactively setting up sales appointments for further qualification discussions.

Desired Experience & Education

  • BS or BA degree and a minimum of 1-year business experience in sales is preferred. Recent college graduates are also encouraged to apply.
  • Experience conducting business and building relationships using phone and email, with excellent phone, interpersonal, verbal & written capabilities
  • Experience successfully managing multiple priorities simultaneously, maintaining a high-volume pace with the ability to “switch gears” quickly as the prospecting conversation warrants.
  • Over-the-top motivation and creativity to successfully reach prospects and create conversations
  • Comfortable recording notes, data, etc., into our CRM system (salesforce.com – we can only improve what we measure)
  • Professional persistence & ability to “think on your feet” and make a compelling introduction. HUNTER mentality.
  • Organizational skills and a results-oriented, self-starter attitude
  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals – this position carries a qualified lead and pipeline quota and bonuses for exceeding quota.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications, Salesforce.com and internet navigation.
