Welcome to the end-of-summer VoltDBrief, in which we lament the end of beach season in Massachusetts by turning our attention to the baseball pennant race and the travails of the New England Patriots, who began the NFL season without star quarterback Tom Brady. #FreeTomBrady!
We’ve put the final touches on VoltDB v6.6. Oh, and we also greatly enhanced the VoltDB.com website! It’s a major overhaul and we’d love your feedback. Please take a look and let us know what you think.
VoltDB v6.6 available
The big news in VoltDB v6.6 is materialized views on joins. V6.6 also features new, improved commands for starting database servers. The new VoltDB command line replaces the Create, Recover, Rejoin and Add commands with just two commands: Init and Start. Users will see improvements in both process lifecycle management and the ability to deploy VoltDB in containers. More v6.6 database goodness includes support for running different versions of VoltDB between XDCR clusters, new trigonometric SQL column functions, and more flexibility for SQL functions without input arguments. Please download v6.6 today!
New Webinar: Transforming Your Business with Fast Data
Data is moving at blinding speeds, generated by a wide range of sources – from mobile phones and sensors to a variety of connected “smart” devices. This data, most valuable the moment it arrives, will continue to increase in both volume and variety.
But don’t take our word for it. During this webinar, Dheeraj Remella will address five data management pain points VoltDB solves by highlighting real customers with real, in-production solutions.
Strata + Hadoop World
In late September, we are attending the Strata + Hadoop World Big Data Conference in New York City – we’ll be in Booth 345. Founding Engineer John Hugg will present a talk on September 29. This is a great opportunity to meet and network with other big data professionals and also to take a peek at the newest research, technologies and analytical approaches in the big data field. We look forward to meeting with and learning from some of the most knowledgeable and influential members of the data management world.
VoltDB Summer Interns
With the end of summer, we say farewell to our interns: Femi Olukoya, who is pursuing his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University; Rachael Harding, who is a PhD candidate in Computer Science at MIT; and Yuxuan Chen and Yulong Tian, who are both working towards Master’s degrees in Computer Science at Brown University. All made contributions to our engineering team this summer and we are sad to see them leave, but wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors!
But wait – there’s more
