In-Memory Database Blog

Editor’s Note: This was originally posted by VanillaPlus, regarding a webinar VanillaPlus hosted featuring Beccham Research and VoltDB.

With the ever-nearing move to 5G and the impending explosion of industrial IoT use cases, data is going to play a very important role in the quality of service assurance, know your customer (KYC) and security. With this in mind VanillaPlus recently hosted a webinar to explore strategies around how the policy and charging rules function (PCRF) is developing in order to support 5G, the expanded use cases involved and the new operational environment.

5G isn’t just an incremental increase in speed and bandwidth, it’s the new face of the network and a key driver of the digital revolution. Until now, the technology was regarded as a buzzword, or something “just around the corner.” But with a number of public demonstrations, including at the recent 2018 Olympics, by industry leaders including Vodafone, Intel, Huawei, Verizon, and more, it’s safe to say that we have reached the era of 5G.

Recently, we hosted a webinar entitled “The Humble Cloud Architect: What is Your Database Strategy?” We had a number of excellent questions during that session, including some that we did not have the time to answer during the webinar. These questions are reproduced and answered below. For those who missed the webinar, you may view it on demand.

Editor’s Note: Unless otherwise noted, the question is coming from a webinar attendee via our chat functionality during the session. Answers were provided by VoltDB’s Seeta Somagani. These answers have been edited for clarity and grammar.
